Ghossein Stories from Hadath Al Jebbeh Al-Ghossain in Australia The Story of Roumanos M. al-Ghossain By Raymond Farid al-Ghossain (Gossayn) Roumanos Mousy (Moses) Younis Massoud Younis al-Ghossain (Gossayn) born in Hadid (Hadath al-Joubbeh) 1896 married Yamnah (Youmna) Chedrawi in 1921. Yamnah Chedrawi was the daughter of Yacoub (Jacob) and Shmouneh Chedrawi. In 1924, Roumanos boarded a boat heading to South America, the boat stopped in the Gold coast (Ghana), to replenish its coal supply. It was fateful for Roumanos to meet Eid laba Chidrawi, one of his friends who convinced him to stay in Ghana rather than continuing to South America. Roumanos decided to stay. After a severe illness caused by the tropical climate of the Gold Coast Yamna was advised by doctors to take her children and move back to Lebanon, which she did never to see her husband again. She brought up her children under the guardianship of her brother in law Doumit, Roumanose’s brother. Roumanos was a merchant and a gambler, highly respected for his honesty and his extreme generosity. There was a saying in Ghana that Roumanos’s reputation was like a gold coin; it was collateral for the future generation. Roumanos lived the greatest part of his life in Africa. He moved to Australia in his twilight years to be with his children who settled in Australia, and died there. Roumanos and Yamnah had one daughter and three sons Alia, Farid, Toufic and Neif. Alia Romanos Gossayn married Hannah Yacoub Gossayn and had two daughters and a son, Fountin Renee and George.
Farid Romanos Gossayn married Marguerite Khalil Massoud from Bekfayah, had two sons and a daughter Fayez, Raymond, and Diana. Fayez Farid Gossayn married Remonda Daou from Beirut and had two sons and a daughter.
Raymond Farid Gossayn married Georgette Daoud from Beirut had two daughters Margueritte and Amanda Gossayn. Toufic Romanos Gossayn, who had the most beautiful and powerful singing voice died a bachelor. He lived in the Hadid until he was in his late thirties, than immigrated to Australia to live with his brother Neif and family Neif Romanos Gossayn married Malakie Allam, and has three sons and two daughters Henry, Robin, Tommy, Nada and Mona.
