The church was built in 1110AD. It still portrays historic characteristics of its era even though it was restored several times.
According to the records of Patriarch Estephan Al-Douaihi, who was the Patriarch of the Maronite Church from 1670 to 1704, the order to construct the church was given by Salome, the daughter of Father Bassil Al-Bsherrawi. She named the church after Saint Daniel due to the likeness between the Saint and the people of the region, according to the records.
The historic building was destroyed several times during military raids, notably because the village of Hadath Al Jebbeh is at a crossroads between North Lebanon and Beqaa. The first raid was by the Mamluks in 1283, after which the church was restored.
More recent renovation projects date back to the 1930s and 1994. The latter project was finished in 2000, which added items to the church's decoration and exterior.
"The stones used for restoration were taken from the same quarry from which the original stones were extracted to build the church", said father Habib, who was present throughout the project.
